Richard Stallman，66歲，是就職於 MIT 的計算機科學家。他最著名的成就就是在 1983 年發起了自由軟體運動。他也開發了 GNU 項目旗下的部分軟體，比如 GCC 和 Emacs。受自由軟體運動影響選擇使用 GPL 開源協議的項目不計其數。Linux 是其中最出名的項目之一。
Jeffrey Epstein（愛潑斯坦），美國億萬富翁，金融大佬。其涉嫌為社會上流精英提供性交易服務（其中有未成年少女）而被指控成為性犯罪者。在受審期間，愛潑斯坦在監獄中自殺身亡。
Marvin Lee Minsky，MIT 知名計算機科學家。他在 MIT 建立了人工智慧實驗室。2016 年，88 歲的 Minsky 逝世。在 Minsky 逝世後，一位名為 Misky 的愛潑斯坦事件受害者聲稱其在未成年時曾被「誘導」到愛潑斯坦的私人島嶼，與之發生性關係。
但是這些與 Richard Stallman 有什麼關係？這要從 Stallman 發給 MIT 計算機科學與人工智慧實驗室（CSAIL）的學生以及附屬機構就愛潑斯坦的捐款提出抗議的郵件列表的郵件說起。郵件全文翻譯如下：
周五事件的公告對 Marvin Minsky 來說是不公正的。
「已故的人工智慧 『先鋒』 Marvin Minsky （被控告侵害了愛潑斯坦事件的受害者之一[2]）」
不公正之處在於 「 侵害 」 這個用語。「 性侵犯 」 這個用語非常的糢糊，誇大了指控的嚴重性：宣稱某人做了 X 但誤導別人，讓別人覺得這個人做了 Y，Y 遠遠比 X 嚴重。
上面引用的指控顯然就是誇大。報導聲稱 Minksy 與愛潑斯坦的 女眷 之一發生了性關係（詳見 https://www.theverge.com/2019/8/9/20798900/marvin-minsky-jeffrey-epstein-sex-trafficking-island-court-records-unsealed）。我們假設這是真的（我找不到理由不相信）。
「 侵害 」 這個詞，意味著他使用了某種暴力。但那篇報道並沒有提到這個，只說了他們發生了性關係。
我們可以想像很多種情況，但最合理的情況是，她在 Marvin 面前表現的像是完全自願的。假設她是被愛潑斯坦強迫的，那愛潑斯坦有充足的理由讓她對大多數人守口如瓶。

一位機器人學工程師從她的朋友那裡收到了轉發的郵件並發起了一個清除 Stallman 的活動。她要的不是澄清或者道歉，她只想要清除斯托曼，就算這意味著 「將 MIT 夷為平地」 也在所不惜。
是，至少 Stallman 沒有被控強姦任何人。但這就是我們的最高標準嗎？這所聲望極高的學院堅持的標準就是這樣的嗎？如果這是麻省理工學院想要捍衛的、想要代表的標準的話，還不如把這破學校夷為平地…

很快這個消息就被 The Vice、每日野獸，未來主義等大媒體採訪。他們把 Stallman 描繪成愛潑斯坦的捍衛者。在強烈的抗議聲中，GNOME 執行董事威脅要結束 GNOME 和 FSF 之間的關係。
最後，Stallman 先是從 MIT 辭職，現在又從 自由軟體基金會 辭職。
危險的特權？
我們見識到了，把一個人從他創建並為之工作了三十多年的組織中驅逐出去僅僅需要五天。這甚至還是在 Stallman 沒有參與性交易醜聞的情況下。
其中一些 「活動家」 過去也曾針對過 Linux 的作者 Linus Torvalds。Linux 基金會背後的管理層預見到了科技行業激進主義的增長趨勢，因此他們制定了適用於 Linux 內核開發的行為準則並強制 Torvalds 接受培訓以改善他的行為。如果他們沒有採取糾正措施，可能 Torvalds 也已經被批倒批臭了。
忽視技術支持者的魯莽行為和性別歧視是不可接受的，但是對於那些遇到不同意某種流行觀點的人就進行聲討，施以私刑也是不道德的做法。我不支持 Stallman 和他過去的言論，但我也不能接受他以這種方式（被迫？）辭職。
